I stepped into my first drama classroom and discovered something extraordinary: the transformative power of theatre to unlock potential in every learner. That moment shaped everything that followed.
I'm Liam Greenall, and drama education is at the heart of everything I do. As an education leader and creative strategist, I've spent two decades championing drama as an essential cornerstone of a school’s curriculum, watching countless students find their voice, confidence, and creativity through performance.
In 2017, that passion crystallised into Black Box Education. What began as a mission to design meaningful resources and learning environments soon blossomed into something remarkable. Our resources now inspire learning in over 3,000 schools across 43 countries, connecting with theatre companies, educational organisations, and governments worldwide who share the vision.
But growth demanded reflection. In 2024, I pressed pause to ask the fundamental question: what lies at the very heart of drama education? That period of reevaluation and renewal led to something special—a fresh collection of resources that are engaging, flexible, inspiring, and above all, purposeful.
When I designed the first Theatre Journal for my IB Theatre students back in 2016, I never imagined it would become the spark that ignited everything.
Here's what I believe: drama education exists to empower. Every lesson should spark imagination, every activity should build confidence, and every resource should serve the brilliant educators who make magic happen in drama learning environments around the globe.
Our September 2025 relaunch marked an exciting new chapter for Black Box Education. We've returned with renewed energy and purpose, ready to collaborate with fellow arts education pioneers in creating resources that truly serve our shared mission of empowering learners through drama.
The curtain has risen on this new era, and I'm thrilled to be working alongside educators worldwide who believe, as I do, that drama changes lives.
For years, I've watched brilliant drama and theatre students navigate their studies without text-based resources that genuinely speak to them.
Having founded and worked with various publications throughout my career, I knew something was missing—a JOURNAL created specifically for the next generation of performers, directors, and theatre-makers.
That missing piece has finally arrived.
