- physical theatre toolkit
Physical theatre lies at the core of my work as a drama teacher and director of theatre. Over time, I have drawn inspiration from groundbreaking practitioners and crafted a methodology grounded in experimentation—one that encourages young performers (our students) to take risks, persevere through challenges, and, most importantly, create theatre that is bold, authentic, and deeply expressive.
This publication marks the beginning of my effort to document and share this methodology. It is the first instalment of the Physical Theatre Toolkit, which features 25 unique frameworks and techniques. Some of these will feel familiar, while others may be entirely new, as this is the first time I have formally contextualised my methods for creating devised theatre with young people.
It’s free to download and use. Click the button below for instant access. The toolkit includes:
25 Techniques and Frameworks Chart Cards that you can use as a full curriculum, embed in your planning or use in devising projects or rehearsal processes for script work.
100 practical exercises designed to develop physical theatre performance skills, enhance creativity, and support the understanding and exploration of the techniques and frameworks.
